Four of us turned up at the start today, Myself, Andy Prideaux, John Durham & Dave Oatway, Andy Easton had sent his apologises as not feeling to great. After we had inspected Daves new bike all nice and shiney especially his chrome type brake callipers, we set off heading for Penquit and on country lanes towards Ayleston Cross and up onto the B3392. This was our 2nd or 3rd big hill, and this last long one finally did Dave in and he decided to head back. The three of us headed on towards Knighton Coombe, Foxhole and up another long hill to Bigbury Court & Bigbury, then Bigbury-on-Sea and down to Challaborough for our coffe stop.
Having had a nice chat with the guy who runs the beach cafe, another Birmingham immigrant to the West country, and John had topped himself up with a big breakfast, we set off again. It was another steep climb out off Challaborough towards Ringmore and then country lanes through Kingston, Sheerlangstone and to Modbury. Here John was flagging due to his long ride in from Tavistock to the start, So I decided no more hills and we took the main road back to Ermington and then Ivybridge.
John had started to feel a bit glum, so here`s a little ditty which was on one of the birthday cards my girls sent me.
I wish I were a glowworm,
a glow worm`s never glum,
cos how can you be grumpy,
when the sun shines out your bum.
Happy cycling Trevor ( 26.7 miles today )
