On a bitterly cold morning I arrived at Plymco to find Andy waiting alone for someone to turn up! When no one else came by 10.00 we set off. We hadn't got out of the car park when Graham R and Mike appeared. As we cycled along Plymouth Road towards Coypool Graham informed us that it was only 1 degree C and he was heading home! So then we were three. We carried on up the Plymbridge trail and on the hill up towards Clearbrook was the first signs of ice, then after the cattlegrid the remnants of snow, and quite a lot of it too. We cautiously made our way to Yelverton and onto Long Ash with a longing for warmth and a hot drink. When we arrived George and Larrys bikes' were outside and inside we found Bryan R and Sue with them. Bryan had driven Sue there for coffee and a catchup with us. Sue is making steady progress, on only one crutch now, but it will still be some time (March she thinks) before she will be allowed or possibly ready, to drive or cycle.
I was well wrapped up with three layers under my jacket and double layers of socks, leggings and gloves, but still the cold was able to penetrate. Andy was feeling the cold more than us and Mike had already said he was going home anyway. Larry set off alone from there as his direction home takes him the opposite way to us. And so the four of us turned back from Long Ash and headed home, I left the boys as we came back onto the main Tavistock Road. I stayed on it and just pedalled as quick as I could for Plymouth and they took the lane to Clearbrook again back to Plympton. My readout was 25.5 f-f-freezing miles!
