Five of us met at the Torpoint Ferry for 10 a.m. Clare, George, Mike, Andy P and myself (Julie). I had in the week been contacted by a couple who indicated they would join us for the ride but were a no show by the time the ferry was boarding. Yolande had text me saying she was going off rambling for a change but was feeling guilty! It was a bit grey and drizzley and not looking really that great on the horizon. We set off for the cafe at Freathy above Whitsand Bay and were so relaxed and enjoying it, that we had a second round of drinks! Then we headed off for Kingsand and sat on the benches there overlooking the bay to eat our sandwiches and it wasn't long before the next wave of drizzle swept in from the sea. George suggested we head off towards Maker Camp where there should be a cafe open. Clare and Andy left us for the return ferry at the junction before Maker. However, the cafe was shut, and George bumped into another person he knew, (the first was in the cafe at Freathy) telling us all about what the Trustees were hoping to achieve with Maker. Then we set off across the grass trying to find the track out of there and the road towards Millbrook, but it was slightly muddy and George skidded off and landed on his bum in the brambles! He is fine. Back through St John without anymore tea, we tried the pub in St John but it too was closed. Between St John and Torpoint George then bumped into another couple of friends walking and bird-watching. He is very well known and it seems has a lot of friends! I was back home by 3.45p.m having done 27.5 miles and encountered another shower on the road home from the ferry.
