I decided to start the ride this week from Ivybridge Rugby club to give the Plymouth & Plympton lot a break of the normal trudge from Plympton and back. From the two that turned up it proved to be a welcome break, we would have had three ( Andy Easton ) but he decided to still ride in and under estimated the time it would take with a strong cold head wind he apparently never made it till around 10.00hrs by which time we had given up on him.
With the two riders Graham Black, Dave Newman and myself we set off in a cold easterley head wind and drizzle towards Wrangaton and on to Avonwick. The forcast was it would clear up by midday so with hope in mind we trudged on.At Avonwick we took the North Huish road to get some hill training in to prepare us for the long climb into Dipford and up to the Moreleigh road. Then straight across the main Kingsbridge road and onto Blackawton. We made good time with just the three of us and arrived at the George Inn half an hour before opening time, but a nice Chinese lady opened up for us to serve some coffee She was very chatty and we had a nice chinwag as the locals piled in for there Sunday pint.
We set off again heading for Bow bridge then upto the Strete road and along into Strete and the Coastal road, here we turned right and down the long hill to the Torcross road.By now the sky`s had cleared with the sun trying to come out.At the Slapton turning I asked the thoughts on the next coffee break as I planed another pub stop, but we decided we needed some cake,so we rode on to Torcross taking a diversion to see the latest storm damage then on to Stokely farm shop.It was pretty full with lunch time diners but we found a table and sussed out the specials board which had Broccoli & Stilton soup ,so three bowls of that where ordered.
With nice warm soup inside us we headed for Stokenham, Frittiscombe the edge of Slapton and up onto Five mile way and to the main Kingsbridge road. Then through Morleleigh and down to Gara bridge, California cross and back to Ivybridge. By now it was a lovely sunny day and arrived back at the Rugby club having clocked up 43.7mile of an enjoyable ride with Dave Newman staying for the whole ride.
