I meet everyone at Hunting Lodge, Ted & Bill were already there to be followed by the Plympton crowd who had to weave a path through all the motor bikes heading for the start of the Mega ride at Leemill Ind est. Graham John on his motor bike decided to join them but then thought perhaps he did not qualify and so joined us at the Hunting Lodge a bit later, which gave Andy Prideaux & Graham Reed time to finally join us having running a bit late.
With us all assembled a total of 10 riders, Myself, Graham`s John,Black, Reed,Andys Prideaux,Easton, Yolande Beriot,Ted Greenberry, Bill Tuft, Neil ( Dave Newmans son in law).
We set off on the normal route out to Wrangaton and then down to Avonwick, here we headed for Dipford and the long hill up to the Morleigh road, then through Morleigh to the junction of the Kingdbridge road and onto country lanes to our first stop at Blackawton. Here our venue was the George inn, where we were made very welcome and where served free cakes, much to the delight of every one. Here Ted decided to organise everone for another group photo being very polite to Graham Black calling him Mr Black.
Once we managed to drag ourselfs away from the free cake and great hospitality, we joined the lovelly country lanes again and headed for Tuckenhay and the Maltsers arms for lunch by the river Dart. This was packed by Sunday lunch diners and was a job getting served at the bar. We sat having lunch watching all the activity on the river, Yolande tried to recruit somebody to share hire of canoe and a romantic paddle up the Dart, sadly nobody took up her offer, better luck next time Yolande.
Again Ted organised everyone for a second photo shoot, recruiting some innocent member of the public as official photorapher.Once we had all been duly organised we set off on the return route back to Ivybridge, taking in Bow Bridge, Harbertonford,Royston Bridge and onto Avonwick, here we somehow managed to lose Andy Easton, where did he go? answers on a postcard to the secretary. The rest of us turned left onto the back road to South Brent and then to Ivybridge, saying goodbys to the Plymton crowd.
A nice dry day sadly no sun, I had 40.5 miles on the clock. Hope everyone enjoyed the ride, must visit the George inn at Blackawton again for free cakes.Myself and Graham Black had our chocolate cake smothered all round our faces, see Graham Photo. Lots more photo`s to follow.
