Blunts to South Cornish Coast  18/3/19  Larry Clarke

This being the first time of starting from Blunts, I thought we had a good turn out. So four of us set off
into the mist & occasional Cornish missle. Soon we climbed our way through St Ive & then we arrived at
a side road on our left where only Dave new where it was going to lead. Soon afterwards a large lorry
went by followed by a steep climb, then over a crossroads before coming out on the main Liskeard to
Launceston road. After turning left we seemed to freewheel most of the way into Liskeard for elevenses
in Wetherspoons. Trevor seems to like Wetherspoons. Must be something to do with china mugs.
So after much talk whilst consuming coffee & toast we re-mounted our trusty steeds & headed for the
coast. Soon arriving at the first climb after passing an Organ museum. Here Graham B, showed us what
electric bikes are made for, by leaving us in his wake. Now we had a lovely lane taking us down to
Sandplace, with the East Looe River & single track railway from Liskeard to Looe on our left. Soon we
found ourselves climbing again up towards Widegate on the A387, & passing the turning into Morval
estate. Where back last summer we did rough stuff. Shortly before Widegate we took a right turning into
a side road, & still climbing headed passed the highest point in our ride 190 meters. Then a short descent
to No Man`s Land, then over the main road to Looe & into the lane to Seaton. With a lovely view out to
sea as we descended to Seaton cafe for a quick coffee break. Here we had the sea as a backdrop, but to
much cloud around to fully enjoy it.
Now back in the saddle & heading for Downderry & the big climb heading us inland to the lane to take
us to Polbathic. Soon arriving here after a long & winding descent. Quickly crossing over the main
Torpoint road & up to St Germans. Soon passing Lord Elliots estate on our right & heading down to the
village of Tideford. Here we crossed the main A38 & headed up to Tideford Cross, & finally back to
Blunt, after climbing up defibrillator hill. 31 quality miles recorded on the computer.
