I waited at the Hunting Lodge for the main "A" group to join me and was suprised to see the largest turn out for quite a while.( 7+ me) There was , Graham B, Graham J, Andy E, Mike W, Neil B ,Julie L & Yolande.
Off we set with me leading to the Ermington road then turned left to take us through Penquit and then a succession of quiet country lanes via, Mary Cross, The Thatches Holiday Village,Chillington Cross, then just as we came to the steep hill to Stanton my chain came off and jammed solid between my large rear cog and wheel. I tried all ways to free it with the help of Mike & Graham J but it would not budge. Here is when our perpetual D.I.Y expert came to the rescue,( Mike ) he suggested spliiting the chain and leaving the jammed bit in place, which was abount 4", and low and behold, Mike happened to have a said bit of chain in his new saddle bag. ( What a hero !! ) So off we set to join the others at the Chilli farm Shop, who had gone ahead under my directions
When we had all had our chilli shot via the free chocolate and with Mike, you`ve guessed it ,had a job to do at home, with Julie in tow decided to head back. The rest of us carried on down a nice long hill to Topsham Bridge and then on through Woodliegh and down to the Avon Valley farm shop for our second helping of cake, tea & coffee. Suitably refreshed we set off to Aveton Gifford along the back lanes via Knapp Mill, at Aveton we joined the Sustain route 28 through the Gypo`s ( sorry Travellers ) camp, and off road down a really muddy track. When we rejoined the road with much mudded bikes and shoes, Neil the rat catcher started moaning I had got his nice shinny bike all muddy, and threatened to leave it at my house for me to clean up. Good job I`m deaf.
Then  we rode onto Longdon Cross and re-joined the route out and back via Ermington to Ivybridge, a mere 28-30 miles for me, and 38-40 miles for the Plympton starters.

Note; My bike lasted out with the repair from Mike , the stuck bit of chain Andy and I managed to pull out at the Loddiswell stop. Many thanks to Mike,I wont take the mick out of you again, Well not much.

Thanks, Trevor, for taking us on an excellent route. I'm looking forward to doing it again in the Spring.
