This was to have been Andy Prideaux' ride but he came down with a virus and couldn't lead the ride. I was nominally the leader in his place but the route was so familiar to all of us that we more or less cobbled it together as we went along. Elevenses was at Long Ash, which marked the parting of the ways. Bryan and Mike headed back down the trail and Dave Newman decided to wait for Andy Easton with the intention of having a bit of a bash in training for Andy's forthcoming ride in the Lake District with two work mates. Graham Black was happy to make a day of it in spite of the dismal weather. John, Jennifer, Graham and I left for Petertavy via Horrabridge and the steep hill up onto the moor. There was extensive weather damage on the lane descending from Sowton Town and we were surprised to see a motorist pass us there. We headed back towards Tavistock on the main road and took the first road right onto the old railway track. We negotiated our way to the end and followed the 270/27 cycle route to the beginning of Drake's trail. John and Jennifer invited us back to their place to eat our sandwiches out of the cold and damp. Fully refreshed Graham Black and I headed up Drake's Trail to Yelverton and down the cycle track. I said goodbye to Graham at Bickleigh and he continued down the track to retrieve his van in Plympton.

Surprisingly I noticed quite a few pot holes in the road over the course of the day. There was a whole spate of them a few years ago and there were massive repairs some while afterwards, which seemed to cure the problem. But now, like the sequel to some horror movie, they're back again.  Anyway, 48 miles on the clock today and let's hope for warmer and sunnier days to come.
