Graham John - Woolston Green, Sunday 22 November 2015

22/11/2015

On this cold but mercifully bright November day after so much rain, the following were at the start: Bryan Richardson, Sue Etheridge, John Durham, David Newman and Nycci, Graham Black, Mike Willacy and Graham John. We met up with Trevor Bradshaw and Ted Greenberry at the Hunting Lodge.

Bryan said that Anna has received the all clear from Derriford and we are looking forward to seeing her out on club runs again soon.

Nothing went to plan today. In view of the shortened daylight hours we curtailed the route, making Woolston Green our destination rather than Beasands. Not reading the runs list properly I changed the coffee stop inadvertently to Wrangaton, which in any case was a better choice since Ted and Trevor live on Endsleigh's door stop.

We headed out through Ivybridge via the back Ermington lane. At Wrangaton Mike, Sue and Bryan left us. We headed on to South Brent, up Hillside and to Buckfastleigh, where Nycci and Dave left us. We took the first right on the Ashburton road and laboured up a very steep hill.  We bypassed Woolston Green, which we could - to our credit - see over the hedges, and headed straight for our second coffee stop at Staverton Garden Centre. To our surprise it had started to rain and we were ready for a good soaking on our way back to Ivybridge and Plympton. Fortunately the weather brightened up after a bit and we made our way back to Plympton via Rattery, Harbertonford and South Brent.

The route involved a number of serious climbs which slowed the pace down in places. Altogether it was another fantastic social ride - just short of 50 miles by the time I got back to Plympton.

Many thanks to all of you who turned out today.
