Trevor and I arrived on the Ridgeway about the same time,he complaining his back was giving him stick and would not be joining the ride. Graham B, Mike W were soon to follow and finally Dave N.
For a change we went the road that lead directly to Plymbridge Woods, passing Boringdon golf club on the way. Unfortunately Dave had his 1st puncture a little further on. By this time Graham and I had reached the beginning of the trail at Plymbridge and wondered what had happened to him and Mike.
Being the Leader I thought I should go back and investigate. As Graham and I headed back Dave and Mike approached us saying that Dave had, had a puncture, and had problems locating the source fine I thought everyone gets punctures.
Soon we were at Yelverton and heading towards Long Ash for our first cuppa of the day. It was a fine day with blue skies but some what colder than we had been used to, and it was nice to see the sun.
Suitably refreshed we left Long Ash and suddenly we were fighting a head wind. Dave and Graham took the lead with electric verses testosterone, whilst Mike and I simply followed at a snails pace.
I now took the lead from Pound Corner and the hill leading down
to the main A386 road and Horrabridge was soon beckoning. Stopping and looking behind I noticed Dave was no longer with us. Both Graham and I set back to see if we could locate him, as I did not have his mobile no.
As Dave was nowhere to be seen, thinking that he might have joined the Drakes Trail to Tavi we carried on, taking the back road to Tavi, hoping we might eventually meet up once more.
On arriving at Tavi I thought it would be a good time for a lunch stop, cycling up to the old viaduct and finding a suitable bench that's what we did.
Having had lunch it was onwards and upwards once more, following the old rail track then on road leading to the canal and Crowndale road, followed by Morrisons for a top up and a sticky bun.
The rest of the journey home was accomplished on the Drakes Trail and before long we were at Horrabridge, where Graham had a call from Dave saying he'd had another puncture and couldn't repair it as he'd given his pump to Mike. However he managed to limp home on a flat tyre.
On arriving home I managed to clock an amazing 37 miles and a story to tell,
Happy days. Andy Prideaux
