I was late to the start, but Julie and Trevor were still waiting when I reached Plymco at 9.40 am. Trevor decided to make his way to Wrangaton via Hemmerdon and Julie and I took the standard route via Ivybridge, catching up with Sue, Anna, Bryan and Patrick on the hill out of Ivybridge. Elevenses were at the Route A38 Café in Wrangaton, which was surprisingly empty. The Glazebrook is shut for refurbishment until mid-May.

It was Sue's first day out on her bike since her accident on ice and she was feeling a bit nervous, especially since she was trying out her new straight handlebars. Patrick, Julie, Trevor and I went on to Dartington, passing trough South Brent, up Hillside, right past Harbourneford and along the Route 2 Cycle path through Rattery and Huxham's Cross just before Dartington. We enjoyed lunch in the grounds of the estate, appreciating the mild weather and sunshine. Patrick left us at that point, since he had a social engagement that evening. Trevor knew the area very well and took us via the cycle track above the River Dart (hard to negotiate in places because it was very steep and overgrown with tree roots) on through Ashprington, Bow Bridge and Harbertonford. At Rolster Bridge we turned left up the dreaded hill, which I done once several years ago and decided "never again". However, Trevor had another surprise for us when he took a right not too far up the hill and led us to Diptford on lanes I had never been on before. From Diptford all was familiar and plain sailing. Julie and I left Trevor in Ivybridge and made our way back to Plymouth. I arrived home at 6.20 pm, 5000 ft of climbing and 60 miles on the clock. So, all told, a pretty good day out.
