Trevor Bradshaw -Dittisham 26 Oct 14

Many thanks to Trevor Bradshaw for leading us on a magnificent ride and to those who supported the ride: Bryan Richardson, Julie Lang, Andy Prideaux, Andy Easton, Graham Reed and Graham John (no "s", shaken not stirred).  Grateful apologies were received form Sue Etheridge, Anna Bryant and perpetual handyman, Mike Willacy. Graham Black was in Leicester for the weekend and Jean and George Sandford were on the Dartmoor Devil.

With temperatures around a mild 14 C and dry lanes, it was ideal weather for cycling. Elevenses was in Ashprington/Bow Bridge and then we made for Dittisham, where we had lunch. Trevor took us on interesting lanes I had not discovered in the past and some that were well ridden for me , but years ago, with Grace Dovell.

It was a particularly hilly route, which posed no problem to most of the riders, but Bryan Richardson and I struggled on the steep hills, which seemed to come one after the other. But what do you expect in the South Hams?

Bryan was finding the going very tough by the time we reached  Combeshead Cross, notable for its house and its inscription made in pebbles:

Psalm 118:24 This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.

So Bryan and I left the main group there and headed slowly back to Ivybridge Park & Ride, while Trevor set a faster speed via North Huish.

In spite of the challenges, everyone enjoyed the ride and were glad, however they coped, to be out on their bikes and enjoy the day as prescribed.
