We set off through Filham and then up passed Ludbrook manor continuing along country lanes to North Huish, from here down to Bickham bridge then a long steep climb up to the Morleigh road. From here we crossed the main Kingsbridge road to more lanes down to Blackawton and our first coffee stop at the George Inn. We decided to go in to the warmth of the bar although we had glimpses of the sun on the way it was still a bit chilly, the landlady got a bit flustered at our demands for coffee different ways and Johns order of soup, but she gave us a cheery wave on the way out.
John & Mike left us here, with John having to go back for a funeral and Mike to knackered or pressing D.I.Y at home. The rest of us carried on towards Higher Cotterbury, Hillfield, Bugford Cross and then up to the Dartmouth road at Hemborough Post. From here we headed down to Capton Bridge skirting Cornworthy and on to Tuckinghay our second stop at the Maltsters Arms. Here we sat outside alongside the river enjoying the wildlife our sandwiches and beer.
Fully refreshed we set of on the homeward leg passed Bow Bridge and then on to Harbertonford, from here to Rolster Bridge and then on to Avonwick & South Brent. By now with it being so dull it started to get dark enough to switch our lights on, and only just passed 3 o`clock. We arrived back at Ivybridge Station car park and I said my goodbyes having done 40.5 miles having had a mixed day of glimpses of the sun but mostly dry and dull plus chilly.
